Disney loses round in fight for Pooh’s merchandising rights
Author: teddygirl | Monday July 03, 2006
Walt Disney Co. has had a 15 year feud over the merchandising rights to the Winnie the Pooh characters. Disney and Claire Milne, the granddaughter of Pooh creator A.A. Milne, have been trying to get the rights from Stephan Slesinger Inc. Slesinger traces its stake in Pooh to a 1930 agreement with A.A. Milne. Because of this agreement, Disney has to pay royalties to Slesinger. The Supreme Court turned away an appeal by Claire Milne.
