Polar bears on Endangered Species Act list?
Author: teddygirl | Friday March 17, 2006
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced in February that a petition to list the polar bear as threatened under the Endangered Species Act may be warranted. The agency started a status review to determine if the species should be proposed for listing. In addition, the agency opened a 60-day public comment period to allow all interested parties to provide information on the polar bear’s status. (Feb 8)
Current bear species on the ESA include the grizzly bear and the Louisiana black bear.
