Rise in deliberate killings of endangered species
Author: teddygirl | Wednesday December 21, 2005
There has been an increase in the intentional killings of endangered species, which are federally protected. Grizzly bears and wolves are the most common victims.
In Montana, 11 grizzly bears have been deliberately killed, which is a record. Other animals that have been deliberately killed are wolves, bald eagles and lynx.
Catching the killers is difficult. Although there are no records of wolves killing humans, wolf killers often claim self-defense.
The lastest murder occurred in New Mexico, where federal wildlife officials found a dead gray wolf and a bald eagle close to each other.
