No more Christopher Robin?
Author: teddygirl | Wednesday December 07, 2005
In 2007, Disney plans to release a computer animated series called My Friends Tigger and Pooh. Guess who will be joining the lovable cast of characters? A tomboyish 6 year-old girl. Guess who she’ll be replacing? Christopher Robin. What? Didn’t Christopher Robin make up these stories?
AA Milne created Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin and the rest of these popular characters 80 years ago. I believe Disney bought the rights to Pooh, and now Pooh merchandise brings in $1 billion a year for Disney, which is more than all their other main characters combined. That brings to mind the old saying: “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
Pooh is already extremely popular, and this new girl isn’t necessary and doesn’t fit with the Milne’s original stories. Nancy Kanter of the Disney Channel said that “these timeless characters really needed a breath of fresh air.” If they were timeless, they wouldn’t need a breath of fresh air.
