Legend of the panda

How the panda got its coat.

I just learned about this Chinese legend of the panda and how the panda got its black and white coat. Pandas used to be pure white. One day, a panda cub was attacked by a panther. The girl stood up and fought the panther, and the panther left the cub alone. The pandas were happy, but the girl later died from her injuries sustained while fighting. The pandas were upset and rubbed black ashes on their legs to symbolize their mourning. Then they wiped their eyes, touched their noses and ears with their paws, and grabbed their tails. All the places they touched stained their fur black. This is how the panda got its beautiful coloring.
